Tank Gauging:
DATAC's Cryogenic Monitoring Unit includes a floor-standing
scale to weigh the mass of gas in the cylinder and an RTU
to monitor and report the mass of gas. The RTU tares the empty
cylinder and displays the percentage of gas remaining in the
tank. When the percentage falls below configurable limits
the current level and history of consumption is reported to
DATAC software, triggering a delivery. If no alarms occur,
the RTU makes periodic heartbeat calls to report its status,
the current level and the consumption history.
The historical and current level information is used to predict
days remaining before run-out allowing deliveries to be efficiency
scheduled and routed. This results in larger drop sizes, fewer
drops, better asset utilization and reduced overtime. The
avoidance of run-outs is a major benefit for end-users who
rely on the specialist gases being available for their business.
Leak Detection:
DATAC's Cryogenic Monitoring Unit interfaces with gas detectors
and shut-off valves to allow gas marketers to offer a unique
service. When gas concentration exceeds safe limits, DATAC
Cryogenic Monitoring Unit sends the alarm to the DATAC software.
These alarms are brought to the attention of an operator who
may command the RTU to shut-off the gas supply. The operator
can examine the gas concentration, the tank volume, line pressures
and valve status in real-time.
 The
line pressure allows the operator to determine if the leak
is on the supply or demand side of the shut-off valves. In
most cases, the leak alarms are so infrequent that end-users
on site do not understand the potential severity of the situation
or how to tackle it. The ability to detect the gas leaks,
remotely shut down the site and advise the end-users on the
steps to take to return the installation to a safe state,
is a unique new service that the gas distributor can supply.
