DATAC Marine
DATAC is a leading specialist in the supply of Remote Control
and Monitoring Systems for lighthouses and aids to navigation.
World-wide the trend among leading lighthouse and ports authorities
is towards automation and de-manning of lighthouses as well
as remote monitoring of buoys and other aids to navigation. The
integration of emerging technologies provide the basis for
Next Generation Systems in the field of Remote Control and
Monitoring Systems (RCMS) for lighthouse authorities. The
primary purpose of using RCMS is to reduce down the cost of
maintaining aids to navigation and to improve the mariners
ability to navigate both at sea and in restricted waterways.
DATAC has developed a range of products and engineering solutions
in this area. These include:
Remote Control and Monitoring Systems for Lighthouses
The DATAC RCMS can be used for remotely monitoring the operation
of the optics, the fog horn generator, and environmental data
on the lighthouse and report this information back to a central
monitoring station. The control capability of the system can
be used to completely automate the operation of the equipment
in the lighthouse.
Alternatively if the lighthouse has already been automated,
DATACs RCMS can be used to monitor the performance of the
automation system and the equipment it controls and report
this to a regional or national central monitoring station.
The RCMS typically is made up of three components. The Remote
Terminal Units located on the aid to navigation, the Central
Monitoring Station usually at the authorities headquarters
or depot and the Communications Network connecting the RTUs
to the Central Station.
Some of the key components of the DATAC range of equipment
are:
- The 932 RTU Programmable RTU for lighthouses requiring
independent local control as well as remote control and
monitoring
- The 922 RTU is designed for aids to navigation with limited
available power.

DATAC offer a family of RTUs depending on the application.
Ranging from small compact units (DATAC 922, which
are ideal for smaller aids to navigation where there
may be a limited power supply; to large programmable
units (DATAC 932) for lighthouses requiring independent
control with a relatively high number of input and output
signals.
All RTUs support continuous and discontinuous communications,
interfacing to GPS engines for time synchronisation
and position monitoring and interfacing intelligently
to different lanterns, lamps and other aids to navigation.

DATACs Control Station utilises PC technology and our
RealFlex/FlexWin suite of software.
It is a true real-time system with superior graphics,
database management and network facilities.
It presents clear and precise operational information
to the users so that they can effectively and efficiently
monitor and control the aids to navigation.
